New Delhi – 7 Days Itinerary
A little before the Chinese Premier landed in India, one of our politicians namely Mulayam Singh Yadav stirred up an old Ghost. Yadav stressed that India needs to be vigilant as China may attack India soon. Perhaps it was rhetoric but the fact remains that 1962 cannot be easily forgotten.
The tag of a martial race was now added to them by the English who realized their potential and embarked on a vast recruitment campaign in the Punjab. Thus the Sikhs with a population of 1.8% of the entire India had representation of 20% in the British Indian army. In addition after 1857 Sikh soldiers were given one extra promotion over other sepoys of the Indian army.
Even during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi most Sikhs were seconded to command Southern Command. Perhaps this had something to do with ‘operation’ blue star where the www.joinindianarmy.nic.in assaulted the Golden temple in complete disregard of all canons of civilized behaviour. It was a sad occasion and disturbed all right thinking people..
Pakistan launched the 1947 Kashmir operation with a view to annex the state to Pakistan. In the fall of 1947 the raiders reached Srinagar airfield and it was not clear whether the tribal’s had over run the airfield. The Indian government having received the instrument of accession signed by the Maharajah Hari Singh ordered the Indian armed forces into the valley. One DC 3 with 28 troops of the Sikh regiment flew into Srinagar at a tie m when the rebels were nearing the airfield. The battle thus commenced as the Sikh regiment faced the tribal’s led by regular Pakistan Army officers.

They are evasive on the Security Council seat for india.Their approach even now is not different from that in 62. To sum up they never give up their claims. They may hibernate but as the time comes the claws come out in the open.
Rajiv Gandhi. He was the elder brother of Sanjay Gandhi and after his death was inducted into the Congress party. He was initially reluctant to enter politics, but later relented and was prime minister from 1984-89.
When? It could be years or never, I was told. I had two jobs waiting for me in Bangkok – with the Business Times newspaper and as a reporter for the US news agency UPI at the 1978 Asian Games.
In the car, his bodyguard Owen Chung was in the front beside Samad. I sat proudly in the back sitting beside the Tunku as the limousine eased out of the driveway and cruised along the tree-lined Ayer Raja Road, to Cantonment Road towards Pulau Tikus. That was the most memorable ride ever in my life.
